What is the purpose of life?

That is an age old question. People have asked themselves that question during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. People always asked that question . But before we can answer, we need to know what life is. So let’s get started.

Life is everything that breaths, we learned that in science class (at least I hope we did.) But that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about our lives. There is only one life. But it has two names. It’s names are Time and Eternity.

See Time is the part of life that we are in. Time is very short compared to Eternity. Say your life was a rope, a really long rope. Say it never ends. Time is probably only an inch of that rope. People say when we die everything we did doesn’t matter but that’s frankly not true. It does matter. What we do during our Time on Earth effects our Eternity.  Either you put God first, or you put your earthly positions first.

Time is long but it’s also short. You may live until you are 80 or you might live until you are 77. But one day your Time will end and your Eternity will begin. Eternity is either in Hell or in Heaven (and I hope you’ll go to heaven but that’s another subject.) No matter where you are after your Time ended, your life will continue.

Philippians 1:21 says “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” Paul is basically saying Jesus is first I live for Jesus. He understood the importance of putting God first. If you live for God and die to yourself (which means not being selfish and stop putting things above God)  your eternity will thank you.

So what is the purpose of life? I think it’s quite simple. The purpose is life is to live for God. Or in other words to love Him with all your heart put Him at the very top of your important list.
