Where’s Dad?

24 million children live in a father absent home. This could mean a divorce with joint custody, or the father walking out. It could also be dad’s being physically there but still absent.

1 ½ years ago my parents got divorced. I was angry. Angry at my parents, angry at God. My heart shattered into a million pieces. And I am not the only one who feels that.

But I’ve been learning God is a father to those who do not have a father.

Psalms 68: 5 “Father of orphans… is God in his holy house.”

Greek word for father is pater it means nourisher, upholder, protector. Psalms 72:10 “Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me”

“Kids have a hole in their soul in the shape of their dad and if a father is unwilling or unable to fill that hole, it can leave a wound that is not easily healed.” – Roland Warren

2 people can fill that hole. Your dad or God. And don’t think that nobody can heal your wound because somebody can. God because he has felt the pain.

You might be asking “Where is dad?” you are not alone. Jesus asked the same thing.

Mark 15:34 “At noon the sky became extremely dark. The darkness lasted three hours. At three o’clock, Jesus groaned out of the depths, crying loudly,…“My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?” He basically said “Dad! Dad! Where are you? I need you!”

To the dads here, open your heart. Listen to God. He entrusted you with your son or daughter. Genesis 18:19 “For I have chosen him, that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice.” Don’t make God regret his decision.

To the fatherless:

You are not alone. You have never been alone. Through the pain, the silent weeping in your bed at night, through the struggles, you have not been alone.

There is a man who is with you. There is a man who is your father. He will never hurt you, and will never leave you. His name? “his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6 It is not over yet. Have hope. Draw strength through the word of God. God is here for you.

Where is Dad? He’s sitting right beside you. He’s in bed with you as you weep. He’s holding you in his arms. He’s holding your hand. Just open your eyes.
