So I googled how to make studying the Bible more engulfing, more of a learning and a growing experience. And I found something called S.O.A.P.. It stands for Scripture, Observations (What’s going on in the passage) Application, and Prayer. Here’s an example.
S. Genesis 1:1-2, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.”
O. Beginning of time/ everything. The earth was formless and void. God created everything out of nothing. Before earth was formed God “hovered” over it. He was thinking of what he wants to do. He was expecting his plans to come into being. He took his time.
A. Like the earth I was formless once. When I was still but a cell in my mom’s womb God was hovering over me. He was thinking of me, expecting his plans for my life to unfold before his and my eyes. He took his time planning everything.
P. God, I pray that you continue to lay out my life before me. Lord I pray that you hover over my life in a sense of expectation for me. I thank you for thinking of me while I was but a speck in my mom’s womb. You took your time just like with the creation of everything. While the earth was formless you expected great things. The same goes for me. Thank you Lord. Amen.
