Life (Part 1 of series “Truly Living”)

Life. The simple definition of life is, “the existence of an individual human being or animal.” So life is pretty much existing for a short amount of time.

Existing is so simple. It’s pretty much taking up space. You don’t matter if you just exist. You’re just taking up space! But is it possible that there’s something more to life than just existing?

I refuse to believe that life is only existing. This blog post is part one of the series I’m calling “Truly Living.” The series is going to discuss what it means to truly live.

Genesis 1:26 reads, “Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” God, the one who put the stars in the heavens, the one who created the oceans with their tides and currents, made us in his image. Do understand the importance of this?

Mankind was created in God’s image. That means we are creative. That means we are made to be joyful, loving, forgiving, and merciful. Our life has a purpose.

Life isn’t meant to just exist. We are supposed to live life to the fullest. We are meant to live with a purpose. That purpose is to be image bearers of God.

God gave us life so that we can serve others. Life might be short and death is certain, but through living life the way we were meant to live it, life has meaning. Life is all about serving. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?'”

Serving can come in different shapes and sizes. It’s holding doors for people. Sitting with people at lunch, helping people with homework. It could be anything. Serving is very important.

Life isn’t only about serving. It’s also about being in relationships with God and others. These relationships with people don’t necessarily be intimate, as in being a couple, but it could be having friends.

In God’s case, He wants an intimate relationship with you. He want’s to bless your life. He has a purpose and a destiny for your life.

He has given you dreams about your future. It might be creating a nonprofit or in my case becoming a pastor. These dreams give your life a purpose.

Dreams make it possible to accomplish something. You will leave your mark on the world. Pursue your dream. Find your destiny. Have a vision.

While you pursue your dreams, listen to God. God will guide you to your dreams and your destiny. Pursue God. This is what life is about.

Challenge yourself. Stretch yourself. Grow as a person. Create something beautiful, I’m not only talking about art, it’s music, writing, speaking, anything. Grow in Christ. Spread the Good News.

It’s not about existing. If you only exist, you will miss everything. Life is about serving others, being creative, pursuing God and your dreams. This is what life is. This is what living life to the fullest looks like.

I would love to hear what you guys have to say. Please leave a comment below. Thanks!

God Bless.

  1. Very good writing and message, Jeremiah. Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us not to depend on our own “understanding,” but in all our ways to acknowledge God, and he will direct our “paths.” You appear to be doing that, and I think that through Christ working in your life, you will, as you said, “grow as a person” into the pastor God will work through to influence many people. Many of us admire you and your commitment to Christ.
